Continued Support for Justice for Black Farmers Act

February 27, 2021

As members of both National Co+op Grocers and the National Organic Coalition, PCC endorsed the Justice for Black Farmers Act of 2021, introduced to the U.S. House of Representatives by Representative Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12).

Created to address the troubling legacy of discrimination against black farmers in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and resulting disparity (black farmers make up about only 1.3% of U.S. agricultural producers), the bill proposes a meaningful framework of reforms and programs, such as the creation of a new Equitable Land Access Service and Farm Conservation Corps.

PCC also endorsed the bill when it was originally introduced to the Senate in November of 2020. Read our previous policy statement here.
