Annual meeting

The annual meeting is your chance to hear how the co-op is doing, ask questions of board candidates and discuss issues with board members, candidates and staff.

Board candidates chosen

The Nominating Committee has selected five PCC members to run for board candidacy in the upcoming annual election. The board candidates went through an extensive application and interview process before being selected by the committee of PCC members to run for the three open board positions on the ballot this year. Look for bios in the April and May issues. The candidates include Lori Babcock, Linda Dickson, Patricia Gibbon, Carmelita Logerwell and Chantal Stevens.

Board schedules breakfast forums

The first of three breakfast forums open to members will be held in the Greenlake store classroom Monday, March 19 at 7:30 a.m. Several board members will be present to meet with interested members and talk about how members can provide input to board decisions in a meaningful way. The second breakfast forum is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, 8 – 10 a.m., at the West Seattle PCC classroom.

Dialogue on Ravenna property

On Wednesday, February 7, PCC members and the public met with PCC management and the Board of Trustees to talk about the future of the Ravenna property. It was the second scheduled meeting with neighbors and community members to discuss options for the property.

A previous meeting was held at the Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center on Saturday, January 27. About 40 people attended the two-hour session, voicing ideas for the site as well as suggestions for a process.

Overall, neighbors in Ravenna are saying they don’t want a food store to be ruled out for the site. The most popular idea raised is some variant of a neighborhood café, restaurant, deli, bakery or some combination. Many neighbors say they don’t want a condo project there, but may accept townhouses on part of the lot.

There was discussion about how to get more members involved in the process and how to develop better communication mechanisms. The community wants direct and continuing interaction with the board and an opportunity to review and respond to proposals for the site before they go to the board.

These meetings were a follow-up to a dialogue at the Ravenna-Bryant Community Association board meeting January 10, which PCC management and members attended.

PCC election voter eligibility

PCC’s annual election will be held May 5-20, 2001. Our membership will elect three people to the Board of Trustees, as well as new members to the Nominating Committee. They’ll serve during the coming year.

You’re eligible to vote in the upcoming election if you’re on our list of active members by March 31, 2001. If you’re at the current level of investment (you’ve paid the full $60 on your membership), and have shopped at least once between April 1, 2000 and March 31, 2001, you’re eligible to vote. If you haven’t fully paid the $60 toward your membership, you must have shopped and made a payment toward your membership sometime between December 1, 2000 and March 31, 2001. In this case the sticker on the back of your card will read March, April, May or June 2001.

Board meeting information

Members are encouraged to attend PCC Board of Trustees meetings. The next board meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at the Roosevelt office. (This date has been changed, and is different than the date that appears in the March Sound Consumer.) Please contact Kathy Blackman at 206-547-1222 x126 closer to the date of the meeting for the time of the open session and to confirm the date. Meeting times are subject to change without notice.

West Seattle store council

PCC West Seattle is looking for members to help form a store council. Projects being considered include increasing the number of members who vote in our annual election and planning a festive summer parking lot event. Our first meeting will be held in the evening on Monday, March 19th at the West Seattle store.
