PCC and Seattle Children's partner to help local families

2013 News

Seattle, Wash., April 30, 2013 — PCC Natural Markets (PCC) and Seattle Children’s have joined forces to help local families in need. Starting May 1 and running through May 31, PCC will donate 5% of “Kid Picks” product sales, up to a total of $10,000, to support Seattle Children’s as part of the “Families Helping Families” program.

To be a PCC Kid Pick, a product must be approved by two-thirds of the thirty plus child “judges” who test it during tastings on the Kid Picks Mobile conducted at PCC stores, community events and schools.

“The goal of the PCC Kid Picks program is to help shoppers find healthy and popular food choices that their families will like,” said Sara Walsh, PCC’s Community Relations Manager. All 1,700 Kid Picks products are flagged in PCC stores with bright orange signs touting them as “Kid-tested and approved products,” and are also listed in a searchable product database at pcckidpicks.com.

The $10,000 to be donated to Seattle Children’s supports two nutrition outreach programs:

  • ACT! (Actively Changing Together!) — a 12-week healthy lifestyle program for overweight and obese youth (eight to 14 years old) and their parents at YMCAs in King, Snohomish and Thurston counties. The program teaches ways to improve nutrition and increase physical activity to help develop healthy lifestyles.
  • Fit 4 You — an obesity prevention program offered by the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic in Seattle’s Central District — identifies patients who are overweight and educates the entire family about grocery shopping, cooking and nutrition.

PCC has supported Seattle Children’s for the past five years, raising $50,000 for the organization over that time.
