We’re excited to announce that our final Community Grant of 2016 has been awarded to Indigenous Learning 360 in Seattle.
This nonprofit organization’s mission is to advance academically rigorous and culturally relevant education for Native students in public schools. Additionally, the group focuses on community outreach to Native families, intergenerational cultural events and professional development for teachers.
In 2013, members of Indigenous Learning 360 helped with the creation of Licton Springs Native K-8, the only Native-focused school in the Seattle Public School District. Next year, Licton Springs will move to its new location on the site of the former Indian Heritage School. Our grant will be used to develop a sustainable garden at the new location. The garden model will be similar to the Beacon Hill Food Forest and will be comprised of indigenous and harvestable plants as seen through a Native lens
