Graham Hill Elementary

And the award goes to…

We’re excited to announce that the Graham Hill Elementary School PTA is the recipient of our Community Grant award. Specifically, it’s their remarkable Food Share Table that will benefit, along with a new “Long Break Food Security” program. The entire amount of our grant will go toward purchasing food for these programs.

The sharing table has been available in the school every Friday for three years now; families are asked to bring what they can, and take what they need. The adults overseeing the program make sure that it’s carefully monitored for candy and other treats, so the children focus on the available pantry staples. Any food left at the end of the day is stored for the following week. At Graham Hill, two-thirds of the students depend on the free/reduced breakfast and lunch program, so the foods from this table can make a notable difference at home.

The new “Long Break Food Security” program will work toward fulfilling a larger need during school breaks for low-income students when school is closed and they can’t access their free/reduced meal program.
