PCC Board of Trustees

Election Guide

VOTING OPENS ONLINE APRIL 18 AT 12:01 A.M. PDT AND CLOSES MAY 2 AT 5 P.M. PDT

A core cooperative principle is democratic member control, which means that members can participate in making certain decisions for the co-op. This comes to life for PCC through our Annual Election when members can vote for candidates to serve on the co-op’s Board of Trustees (“Board”).

The Board’s role is to set the financial, social and environmental goals for PCC, and to provide critical oversight and assistance to management to achieve those goals. The Board is responsible for overseeing annual financial planning and budgeting; developing strategic goals with the co-op leadership team; and assuring that the co-op is living its vision, mission and values. The Board also provides direction on topics such as risk management, social and environmental performance, compensation and benefits, and membership programs.

When looking for trustee candidates, the Board seeks individuals with a passion for PCC, who bring the experience, skills, expertise, character, judgment and diversity to understand the co-op’s current challenges and future business needs to successfully lead the co-op.

In the 2022 election cycle, three applications were received for the three open seats on the Board. You can read about each candidate below. Candidates elected in 2022 will serve a term of three years, which will expire at the Annual Members’ Meeting in 2025.

You may cast a vote FOR or AGAINST each candidate. Those candidates who receive more votes FOR their election than AGAINST will be elected.

Participating in PCC’s Annual Election is an important opportunity for co-op members to exercise their democratic rights. Thank you in advance for voting in this year’s election.

2022 PCC Election FAQs

Q: WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE?

A: You are eligible to vote if you were an active member of PCC Community Markets (PCC) on March 14, 2022, the record date set by the Board of Trustees. Only those in whose name the membership is issued may vote.

Q: HOW DO I KNOW IF I’M AN “ACTIVE” MEMBER?

A: You are an active member of PCC if you have paid your membership fee in full and you have used your membership at least once between March 15, 2021 and March 14, 2022. To find out if you are an active member, log into your online account at pccmarkets.com/my-account.

Q: HOW CAN I VOTE?

A: You can vote online. Eligible members who have given PCC a valid email address by April 13, 2022 will receive an email on April 18, 2022 directing them to their unique online ballot. Once you mark and submit your ballot, you will receive an email confirmation that you have voted.

If you are unable to vote online due to disability or otherwise, please email membership@pccmarkets.com or call 206-965-1514 for a paper ballot. Paper ballots must be received at the co-op office by 5 p.m. PDT on May 2, 2022 to be counted.

Online voting starts April 18, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. PDT and ends May 2, 2022 at 5 p.m. PDT.

Q: HOW CAN I VOTE WITHOUT PROVIDING MY EMAIL ADDRESS?

A: You can go to the voting site login page — located here — to request that your Election Validation Number be mailed to your address on file with PCC. Please submit your request between April 18–21, 2022 to allow sufficient time for mailing.

Q: WHY DON’T WE HAVE MORE CHOICES — THERE ARE THREE OPEN SEATS AND ONLY THREE CANDIDATES?

A: To ensure that we receive a strong pool of applicants to consider when there are openings on our Board, we reach out directly to potential candidates and by posting in Sound Consumer. The Board of Trustees then evaluates the candidates’ application materials and conducts formal interviews and reference checks before presenting a final slate of candidates to co-op members. With any election, the Board puts forth a set of candidates they feel will best serve our co-op’s current and anticipated needs based on those who apply.

PCC Bylaws do not require that more candidates be presented than there are seats.

Q: WERE THERE ANY OTHER CANDIDATES?

A: In the 2022 election cycle, three applications were received for the three open seats on the Board.

Q: ARE THE CANDIDATES COMPETING WITH ANYONE, OR IS IT AN APPROVAL VOTE TALLY?

A: There are three open seats, so technically each candidate is competing against themselves. Each candidate needs more “for” votes than “against” votes in order to secure a seat on the Board.
