in-person classes

Do I need to be vaccinated to attend an in-person class?

No, proof of vaccination is no longer required to attend PCC Cooking Classes as of March 14, 2022.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Masks are now optional in stores and classrooms.

What is the difference between demonstration and hands-on class formats?

Demonstration classes offer a chance for students to sit back and watch a pro at work. Hands-on classes are designed as an interactive hands-on experience, with a smaller class size and the instructor guiding students through the dishes. Kids’ classes are designed as hands-on.

Do I need to bring anything to class?

Digital recipes are emailed 48 hours prior to class. If you would like to reference a hard copy in class, you can print recipes and bring with you. For cook-along classes, please bring an apron and wear closed-toe shoes. For your comfort, you may wish to dress in layers; classroom temperatures fluctuate when ovens and stoves are used.

Do we get to eat the food in class?

Yes, you will receive generous tasting samples of each recipe prepared in class. Most samples are generally served towards the end of class.

If I have any dietary restrictions, can I have the instructor make something special?

Reference the class tags (gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan) and dietary notes listed at the end of each class description to choose the class that’s right for you. Instructors diligently test their recipes before presenting them as part of a class and will prepare them as written.

Gluten-free classes are labelled with a “Gluten-Free” tag. Our teaching classrooms are not gluten-free facilities, but we make an effort to prevent cross-contamination in GF-designated classes. Instructors in non-GF classes may not be able to make changes in class. It is best to email us ahead of time if you have questions.

Classes tagged “Vegan” feature dishes that don’t contain animal-derived products. PCC does not advocate for particular diets or eating philosophies.

Can I bring wine or beer to drink in the class?

Washington State law strictly regulates alcohol service in classes. Classes with a 21+ tag feature sample-size servings of beer, wine or spirits, rather than restaurant-style pours. Alcohol is not allowed in other classes.

Can I go to a full class hoping that someone will not show up?

Please do not. Unfortunately, we can’t know if someone is not going to attend at all or if they are simply running late.

online classes

Online classes are offered live via the Zoom app, in either a demonstration (demo) or cook-along format. One spot in class is good for one kitchen. For best results, we recommend downloading Zoom in advance.

What is the difference between demonstration and cook-along class formats?

Demonstration classes offer a chance for students can sit back and watch a pro at work. Cook-along classes are designed as an interactive hands-on experience, with a smaller class size and the instructor guiding students through the dishes. Kids’ classes are designed as cook-alongs. Parental assistance or supervision may be needed for younger or less experienced students.

Note: Students are welcome to cook along during demo classes if they wish, but due to the timing and format, instructors may not be able troubleshoot any issues in real time. Please reference the recipes for equipment and steps you may need to complete ahead of the class.

When will I receive the Zoom link and recipes for class?

For demonstration classes, the Zoom link and recipes are emailed 4 days before class. For cook-along classes, the Zoom link, shopping list, recipes and class preparation steps are emailed 7 days before class. Didn’t receive your class email? Our emails can get caught by spam or promotions filters, please check there first and if you can’t find it, email us for assistance.

Will the class be recorded?

Yes, we will share a recorded version of the class to all registered students next business day regardless of whether you are able to attend live.

Do you offer classes for special diets? How can I tell which ingredients will be featured in class?

Reference the class tags (gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan) and dietary notes listed at the end of each class description to choose the class that’s right for you.

For online classes, you are welcome to adjust the recipes/ingredients at home according to any dietary preferences. Please note, however, that instructors will teach and prepare the recipes as written during class and may not be able to assist with recipe adaptations. Email us in advance if you have questions about ingredients.

Classes tagged “Vegan” feature dishes that don’t contain animal-derived products. PCC does not advocate for particular diets or eating philosophies.
