Notice of annual PCC membership meeting

2006 election begins this month

Voting in stores and by mail April 26 through May 26

There will be five candidates vying for three positions in this year’s election: Don DeSantis, Julie Tempest, Janet Hietter, Steven Reisler and Stephen Tan. Nominating Committee chair Kim Norton reports that the committee unanimously recommends the slate.

“We thank all of the PCC members who participated in the process by completing and submitting applications. Our recruiting campaign attracted a large number of highly qualified members who are passionate about PCC and deeply interested in its governance.”

The members will have the opportunity to meet and question the candidates at the annual meeting on Tuesday, May 2.

Look for the special election insert inside the May Sound Consumer. It will feature biographical information on the candidates, campaign statements and your ballot. The election material also will be available in our stores and on our Web site (here) beginning April 26. You’ll be able to vote by mail or in any of our stores.

Board chair Bob Cross notes, “The process of producing a slate of candidates is some of the most important work done on behalf of the membership. Recruiting, then reviewing and interviewing the applicants is time-consuming work.”

The committee members are volunteers and most of their work is done outside their normal work schedules, so the nominating schedule can be demanding. Cross congratulates and thanks the nominating committee for its dedication and commitment.

Board report

There was no board meeting in February. The March 28 board meeting report will be published in May’s Sound Consumer.

The board held a day-long retreat in February. The trustees heard presentations from experts and had discussions on Policy Governance® and financial and strategic issues related to growth, the organic and natural food industries, and sustainability’s triple bottom line concern — the balance of economic, social and environmental responsibilities.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be Tuesday, May 30 at 5 p.m. at the co-op office. Time is set aside for member comments at 6 p.m. The agenda will be posted on our Web site approximately one week prior to the meeting.

PCC talk to the board events

Each month, a PCC board member visits a different store for face-to-face conversations with members. As one of the board’s primary member linkage opportunities, these events give members a unique chance to ask questions, make suggestions or share concerns.

The board’s primary job is to set broad goals and growth targets for the co-op. It’s especially important to hear members’ visions for PCC’s future.
