PCC 2009 election results
Board Administrator Janice Parker Theiss notes, “The membership was fortunate to have such an outstanding group of candidates from which to choose. We appreciate the energy and time all of the candidates devoted to the entire electoral process.”
Trustee Stephen Tan was elected to a second term and PCC members Stacey Donahue and Maggie Lucas were elected to their first. Tan, who is the current board chair, offered thanks “to those members who voted in this year’s election. The board welcomes its new members and looks forward to a productive year.”
Commenting on the campaigning process, Donahue was impressed with our members’ involvement. “Thank you all for taking the time to meet and speak with all the candidates [at the annual meeting and in the stores]. The process has made me even more keenly aware of the strong and innovative leadership role PCC plays in our community. I look forward to contributing to a wonderful organization that positively influences our families’ lives and our community’s future.”
A member of the nominating committee serves as arbiter in the ballot count process each year.
Lucas commented, “I was, of course, impressed with PCC when I first applied for this position but with every store visit, every meeting, every encounter with PCC personnel, I was more and more impressed. PCC staff are professional, welcoming and fun! Our members were supportive of the candidates, asked good questions and voted thoughtfully. I am grateful to have received enough votes to join the board, and am looking forward to a fascinating and enjoyable three-year term.”
The new board members will be seated at the June 30 board meeting.
PCC’s 2009 annual election began on Tuesday, April 28 and ended Friday, May 22. The ballots were counted at a public meeting on Monday, May 25. Results of our 2009 election are below.

Board meeting report
The board met on May 26. PCC Farmland Trust executive director Kathryn Gardow gave the board an update on the trust’s plans and activities. PCC continues to be the largest corporate contributor to the trust.
The board development committee led discussion of the board’s self-evaluation process and the orientation plan for new trustees. The member relations committee reported on April’s annual meeting and brought back to the board a response from management on several member benefit questions. Management discussed the member-only coupon booklet mailed in June, which gives members additional opportunities to save money.
The next board meetings are June 30 and July 28 at 5 p.m. at the co-op office. Members are welcome at all public portions of the meeting and member comment period is at 7 p.m.
