PCC COOKS

What better way to greet the new season than by welcoming fresh flavors into your kitchen? Beginning April 1, take a spring vacation just by meeting us in the classroom. Embark on a Roman Holiday, where you’ll savor classic Carbonara pasta; say Hello Hawaii and dine on fish tacos and hula pies; or experience the many flavors of Korea with a Korean Tasting Menu. In the midst of all this springtime excitement, do you need a reminder to slow down and savor your food? The Magic of Mindful Eating will show you the way. You’ll also find classes on everything from spring greens to puff pastry, plus brunch and champagne pairings, and even a guide to gardening in the Pacific Northwest.

April is Edible City Month

Museum of History & Industry

Celebrate the Museum of History & Industry’s (MOHAI) featured exhibit, Edible City: A Delicious Journey, with a month-long, citywide salute to Puget Sound’s passion for food and culture. Unique culinary events and programs will take place across the city including special tastings, book signings and more!

Collect receipts from participating restaurants and establishments to unlock special museum pricing to see Edible City, and look for exclusive MOHAI member menu items and discounts. Museum members also can enjoy an evening of gastronomic adventure during MOHAI’s annual Member Night. For a complete listing of participating restaurants and programs, visit MOHAI.org or #edibleMOHAI.

PCC is a proud sponsor of the Edible City exhibit, which is on display until September. Through artifacts, photographs, films — and, yes, recipes, including PCC’s famous Emerald City Salad — the 5,000-square-foot exhibit explores our city’s culinary history and what it truly means to be a Seattle food. PCC contributed other recipes and artifacts that trace the co-op’s history.

Two of our favorite highlights are the 1978 photograph of the original PCC market in Ravenna, and the photo of the Picardo farm in North Seattle, which became the city’s first P-Patch in the 1970s — with some help from PCC — instead of being sold for development. You’ll have to visit the exhibit to learn more!

Edible City Science Fair

Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Included with admission / Free for MOHAI members

Celebrate Earth Day at MOHAI by investigating the science behind food, farming and sustainability. Enjoy hands-on displays, demonstrations and activities with community groups and organizations from across Washington state. Discover some of the latest innovations in food science!

Seattle Kitchen Live at MOHAI

Tom Douglas and Thierry Rautureau, two esteemed Seattle chefs, bring their long-running Seattle Kitchen KIRO radio show to MOHAI. See their conversation in action as they discuss, argue and laugh about a broad range of topics connected to the city’s food scene, all while nibbling on bites. Advance tickets recommended; visit mohai.org/calendar.

Are Puget Sound's tiniest fish in peril?

Forage fish — the tiny fish that account for the largest fish populations in Puget Sound including herring, smelt and sand lance — are important to the health of the rest of the aquatic ecosystem. They're a food source for larger fish including salmon, as well as for seabirds and marine mammals.
