No Genetic Engineering in Organics

September 17, 2019

PCC joined the Organic Farmers Association (OFA) in a letter to Secretary Sonny Perdue, expressing solidarity against any allowance of genetic engineering in certified organic production.

The letter was prompted by a statement from Under Secretary Greg Ibach during a recent hearing conducted by the House Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research on Assessing the Effectiveness of the Organic Program wherein he asked whether genetic engineering could be useful in organic agriculture.

Farmers and consumers do not want genetic engineering allowed in organic foods or production and remain strongly opposed any consideration of relaxing this organic standard.
