Grow Bananas: increase your impact

Americans consume around 28 pounds of bananas per person every year. With this much consumption, it is worth knowing where and how the fruit is grown. PCC’s bananas from Organics Unlimited are sustainably grown and support fair and ethical labor practices.

PCC’S NEW PACKAGING INITIATIVE

PCC adopted new packaging standards to establish guidelines and accountability for the packaging we use for the foods we make and sell. These new guidelines help reduce carbon emissions, decrease waste from our business to landfills and incinerators, and minimize the release and bioaccumulation of toxic chemicals in the environment and in our bodies.

PCC Cooks class to benefit PCC Farmland Trust

This month we honor our long-standing partnership with PCC Farmland Trust with a PCC Cooks class specially designed to celebrate local farms. All proceeds from our “Farm to Table with the Farmland Trust” class will go directly to PCC Farmland Trust’s “Our Farms, Our Future” campaign, designed to protect farmland in the Puget Sound area.

Sustainability report

We recently pledged to eliminate all petroleum-based plastics from our delis over the next five years and are now hard at work to make this happen. To achieve our five-year goals, we’re working with our packaging supplier to identify new options that are petroleum-free, durable, and cost effective.

HAPPY CO-OP, NON-GMO and FAIR LABOR MONTH

This National Coop Month we review the importance of cooperative membership with a reflection on the history of PCC’s membership benefits and a consideration of benefit updates. We are also pleased to announce that PCC is endorsing Washington Initiative 1631.

Happy Non-GMO Month from the Non-GMO Project

The Non-GMO project was founded more than a decade ago to preserve and improve access to non-GMO products, educate consumers, and provide verified non-GMO choices. This Non-GMO Month it is important to be aware of new GE techniques and how they’re appearing in foods today.

Evaluating PCC member benefits

The way that PCC delivers “member economic participation” has changed a lot over the years. Recently, the board and management team have determined that it’s time to consider the program again, to ensure that it is best meeting the needs of PCC and its members.
